Data methodology

How prices are collected

Prices are collected by manual in-store checks at one branch each of OK Foods, Pick n Pay, and Spar in Harare. Prices are recorded every Friday and published on this site the same day.

We record the standard shelf price for each item β€” not promotional prices, loyalty card prices, or bulk-buy discounts.

Important disclaimer β€” prices vary by branch

Supermarket prices in Zimbabwe can vary significantly between branches β€” especially for fresh produce. The prices shown on this site are from specific Harare branches and may not reflect prices at other locations, including branches in Bulawayo, Mutare, or smaller towns.

We make no guarantee of accuracy. Prices should be used as a general guide and not relied upon for financial decisions. Always verify prices in-store.

ZIMSTAT CPI comparison

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) publishes the Consumer Price Index (CPI) monthly. The CPI measures inflation across a broad basket of goods and services using a weighted methodology.

Our basket differs from the ZIMSTAT CPI in several ways:

Our data is complementary to ZIMSTAT CPI β€” it gives a faster, more granular view of supermarket prices, while ZIMSTAT gives the authoritative official measure of inflation. You can access ZIMSTAT CPI data at zimstat.co.zw.
