What We Do
Zimbabwe Mining Intelligence (ZMI) aggregates and publishes weekly production data across Zimbabwe's five key mineral sectors: gold, platinum group metals, chrome ore, diamonds, and lithium. We track the companies that produce them, the global commodity prices that determine their value, and the policy environment that shapes their future.
Our data is compiled from official sources — the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ), the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), company announcements, and international price benchmarks — and published every Monday morning.

Zimbabwe's Mining Sector
Mining is Zimbabwe's largest foreign currency earner, accounting for roughly 70% of export revenues. The sector produced an estimated $5.6 billion in mineral exports in 2024, led by gold ($2.1B), platinum group metals ($1.8B), chrome ($0.9B), diamonds ($0.5B), and an emerging lithium sector ($0.3B and growing rapidly).
Key production zones include the Great Dyke corridor (gold, PGMs, chrome), the Marange diamond fields (Manicaland), and the Arcadia and Bikita lithium deposits which are drawing significant Chinese investment.
Tracked Commodities
- Gold — Zimbabwe targets 40 tonnes/year by 2025; Blanket Mine (Caledonia) is the flagship large-scale producer alongside thousands of artisanal and small-scale miners (ASM).
- Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) — Zimplats and Unki (Anglo American Platinum) mine the Great Dyke. Zimbabwe holds the world's second-largest known PGM reserves.
- Chrome Ore — Zimbabwe is Africa's largest chrome producer. Afrochine (Chinese-owned) dominates export volumes targeting the stainless steel market.
- Diamonds — The Marange fields were discovered in 2006. ZCDC (Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company) is the primary producer; Murowa (RioZim) is a secondary source.
- Lithium — A fast-growing sector driven by EV battery demand. Huayou Cobalt (Arcadia), Prospect Resources, and others are scaling production rapidly.
Update Frequency
The dashboard is updated every Monday. Monthly production aggregates are confirmed within the first two weeks of the following month once MMCZ and company data are available. Commodity prices update on trading days from the relevant benchmark exchanges.
