Zimbabwe received $2.1 billion in remittances in 2024, according to the World Bank — making the diaspora one of the country's most important sources of foreign currency. Remittances represent approximately 8.5% of GDP, surpassing tourism and many export categories.

The top sending corridors are the United Kingdom, United States, South Africa, Australia and Canada. Mobile money transfers — particularly through EcoCash and Mukuru — have become the dominant delivery method, enabling near-instant payouts to recipients even in rural areas.
